THE Government is offering a 50-acre piece of land to the Indian Association in Uganda for the construction of a heart hospital.
The agriculture minister, Hope Mwesigye, disclosed this recently at a thanksgiving ceremony for the successful heart surgery of 16 children. The surgeries were done at Narayan Hrudayalaya Hospital in India.
The Indian Association spent about sh300m on the surgeries between 2008 and 2009.
The chairman of the Indian Association, Naren Mehta, said 10 children will be operated upon this year.
Raman Patel on behalf of the Rotary club, donated sh20m to the association for this year’s surgeries.
During the function, Vadera Narendra, the brain behind the scheme, said the land offer was timely. He said the association has for long wanted to set up a heart hospital here, but they lacked land.
