JACK Sabiiti, the FDC candidate in the Rukiga county by-elections, has asked his supporters to guard against intimidation and vote rigging.

Campaigning ahead of the March 22 by-elections, Sabiiti, who is the party’s treasurer, asked the voters to reject voting on tables in the open, a practice he said is common in Kabale.

He promised he would bring development projects in micro-finance, poverty eradication and education that had stalled since he lost the seat in the 2006 elections.

“In Rukiga, even some NRM supporters will protect my votes. The people like me because they know I deliver,” he said.
Adison Kakuru (NRM), Amos Mugisha and Medard Gumisiriza, both independents, are Sabiti’s opponents in the race.

The seat fell vacant after the MP, Sam Byanagwa died earlier this year.
