A detective attached to the Inspectorate of Government yesterday said she discovered sh100,000 on David Cheptuke Kaye, the Kisoro Grade I Magistrate.

Catherine Kusemererwa said the money was given to Cheptuke after he solicited for a bribe to grant bail to three suspects.

Kusemererwa told Justice Paul Mugamba of the Anti-corruption Court that she had earlier recorded the serial numbers of the sh50,000 bank notes before the trap was laid. The money was tendered in court as evidence.

Kusemererwa said Cheptuke acknowledged in the presence of the arresting officer that the money was recovered from him.

Kusemererwa said she started investigations after John Bosco Nyondo lodged a complaint with the IGG that Cheptuke had asked for sh200,000 to grant bail to his cousins charged with malicious damage of property.

Cheptuke faces one count of soliciting for gratification and two counts of receiving gratification. He is said to have received sh100,000 from Angella Uwayesu and another sh100,000 from John Bosco Nyondo.
