The Police in Mubende district on Wednesday night battled with rival camps of Dr. Patrick Kabayo and the Luwero Triangle state minister, Nyombi Thembo.

The two are vying for the Kassanda South parliamentary seat on the NRM ticket.

The battle started late in the afternoon as a group of men wearing yellow shirts shouted slogans praising Kaboyo.

The group, which called itself the Yellow Brigade, maintained tight security as they patrolled villages in Kiganda sub-county.

Chaos erupted at Kyabayima village when the group met with Nyombi’s supporters.

The Police arrested 18 members of the “Yellow Brigade”, who were travelling on a pick-up truck armed with sticks.

Three others travelling on a pick-up truck loaded with stones were also arrested.

“When we arrested them, Kabayo also followed and slept here at the Police station. We have now released them on bond with caution that they do not misbehave again,” said Enock Abaine, the district Police chief.
He said the suspects were facing charges of inciting violence.

Abaine added that they were investigating reports that Nyombi’s bodyguard assaulted an old man. Two people have also accused Kabayo’s fans of assault.

Nyombi yesterday denied sending anybody to fight Kabayo’s supporters. “My car had three people. How can I send three people to fight a group of 17?” he asked.

Kabayo was not available for comment.
