NAKASONGOLA woman MP Grace Tubwita lost the NRM primaries to her long time arch-rival, Margaret Komuhangi.

Preliminary results released in Nakasongola on Thursday, indicated that Komuhangi had 23,672 votes against Tubwita’s 17,193

Komuhangi, who has in the past lost twice to Tubwita, led in six of the nine sub-counties. Tubwita on the other hand, beat Komuhangi in Kalongo by 1,500 votes, Kalungi by 500 and Lwabyata by a small margin of 22 votes.

Despite being a member of the predominant Baruuli tribe in Nakasongola, Tubwita, who is serving her second term as MP, was accused by some of the voters of being aloof.

Komuhangi who was elected the first Nakasongola woman MP in 2001, was removed following a petition filed by Tubwita in 2003.

In the bye election that followed, Tubwita’s petition, Komuhangi lost the seat. Komuhangi lost again to Tubwita during the primaries in 2005.
