THE Mufti of Uganda, Shaban Mubajje, has said Islam is a religion of peace and blamed bad elements for hiding behind the faith to shed blood and destroy life.
This was in his Idd-el-fitr message delivered yesterday, as Muslims concluded the holy month of Ramadhan.
“Terrorism and all acts of evil against man have no space whatsoever in Islam. Therefore, relating Islam to terrorism must be rectified for justice and fairness,” Mubajje said.
He called on Muslims to desist from participating in acts of terrorism, urging them to remain calm following the June 11 twin bombings that were detonated in Kampala, killing over 70 people.
The Somalia-based Islamic insurgent group, al-Shabaab, claimed responsibility for the attacks.
On the leadership of Muslims in Uganda, Mubajje said the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council would soon hold general elections, and advised Muslims to use democratic means if they want to change leadership.
