THE post-election saga in Nakaseke took a new twist on Wednesday when the district Police commander (DPC) was arrested for allegedly taking part in election malpractices.

Michael Sebuliba was arrested on Thursday by the Police Professional Standards Unit at Kiwoko Police Station. His arrest came a day after residents protested the election results, which declared Canon Edward Nsamba as the LC5 NRM flag-bearer.

The central regional Police spokesman, Lameck Kigozi, said Sebuliba had also been suspended from the Force. “All I can tell you is that he has been suspended, I have even seen the letter,” Kigozi said.

According to the disputed results, which were announced six days after the elections, Ignatiua Nsamba, whose candidature was supported by the area MP, minister Syda Bumba, emerged the winner with 30,000 votes. His closest rival, incumbent Ignatius Koomu, got 25,000.

The results were disputed by Koomu’s supporters, who said their candidate got 30,000 votes, while Nsamba got 11,181. The Anti-riot Police deployed to contain the situation, seven people were arrested.
