ABOUT 300 people in Masindi district have been trained in financial management. The two-month course enabled families to acquire skills and knowledge in budgeting, debt management, bank services, financial negotiations and saving and access to loans.

The training was conducted by Habitat Uganda.

“You should practically demonstrate what you have learnt in order to overcome poverty in your communities,” said Edward Sekabanja, the Habitat board chairman during the passout of the trainees in Masindi town last week.
He said they plan to train 4,500 family heads across the country over the next three years.

Sekabanja advised the trainees to develop a saving culture and desist from excessive drinking.

Information and national guidance minister Kabakumba Matsiko urged the residents to work together to develop their area irrespective of their different political affiliations.

She also advised parents to educate their children, saying the youth will play a significant role in the country’s development.
