EDITOR—Early this week, the government of Kenya donated 123 metric tonnes of relief food items worth sh364m to the victims of the Bududa landslides that killed and displaced many people in the Mt Elgon area.

The disaster bewildered the nation and its effect is adverse. Kenya’s relief handed over to Prime Minister Apollo Nsibambi must be applauded in more ways than one.

It was sad that the Kenyan vice- president, Kalonzo Musyoka could not hand it over himself because he was involved in a plane mishap because of bad weather.

Our Kenyan neighbours have demonstrated that they are a step ahead in realising the spirit of the East African Community. Kenya has had its fair share of disasters in recent times but that did not deter them from making a generous contribution to Uganda.
