GULU businesswomen have formed an association to promote their interests and saving. The Gulu Women Entrepreneurship Association gives loans to women to empower them economically, Catherine Okot, the chairperson, said.
“This initiative has empowered women economically and reduced domestic violence,” Okot said during a talk-show on Radio Rupiny on Monday. She said the group gives loans to the members to support their businesses.
“The loan is repaid with a 10% interest,” Okot explained. She said with the support of Radio Rupiny, they would involve more women at the sub-county level. “We shall train them in business management to make them competitive.
“Out of the sh3m that we have saved, about sh2m has been loaned out to eleven different women groups; each group gets sh200,000,” she said.
