Kakungulu Cup kick-off

GIANTS Express, URA and SC Villa could be in for big Kakungulu Cup surprises. The big three have tricky encounters in Uganda’s second biggest competition whose preliminary round kicks off in nine days time.

Holders Villa start their campaign by hosting Nalubaale while Uganda Super League table leaders Express have to contend with a stubborn Maji side. KCC travels to Masindi for its opening fixture with Kinyara.

A release from FUFA competitions committee secretary Moses Magogo said the quarter-final draw will be on April 10 at FUFA House in Mengo.

This year’s edition has attracted only 43 clubs unlike the previous seasons where more than 50 teams have been registered.

There are 15 non league teams, six first division clubs and four Big League sides. All the 18 Uganda Super League clubs were included in the draw conducted last Saturday.

The preliminary round will be followed by an elimination round, which will pave way for the round of 32. It is at this stage that the Uganda Super League teams are introduced.

The final is tentatively set for July 10 and the winner will represent Uganda in the Orange CAF Confederation Cup for the 2010/11 Season. Villa beat URA to win the 2009 title.
