Getting rid of onion smell from the hands ---IT is almost impossible to avoid cutting onions, and the smell staying on your hands. Here are a few tips of how to get rid of that smell:
Lemon juice
Squeeze lemon juice onto your hands and rub them together. Then wash your hands.
Baking soda (or salt)
Sprinkle some baking soda, or salt onto your hands and put just enough water on them to form a paste. Rub hands together for a minute or two and rinse off.
Stainless steel
Rub your hands on a stainless steel bar or use the edge of your kitchen sink. The sulfides react with the stainless steel, and remove the odour-causing compounds from your hands.
Refrigerate (don’t freeze) onions
To keep the sulfuric compounds from breaking out when you cut the onion, peel the outer layer first before refrigerating the onion.
Cut while wet and cold
The sulfide gases in onions form a very weak, diluted form of sulfuric acid that disappears when it comes into contact with water. Keep your hands, knife and the onion wet before you cut it. The water from a wet onion will immediately mix with the sulfide gas, and prevent the compounds breaking up, and staying on your hands.
