IT is not uncommon for a woman to pull out a much-needed item that no one suspected she could be carrying. A woman’s bag is muti-purpose — often used as a business gizmo, diaper bag, and an accessory holder.

Recently, on TV, a popular comedian gave guys a hint on how to watch out for a classy lady. “When you take her to your place, hide all your toilet paper.” She will politely say “it is okay” while fishing in her bag for some tissue.

Here are a few tips on the essential things a woman should carry in her bag.

Handkerchief/pocket tissue
Once, I was in a taxi and this nice looking girl sneezed, but her hand could not shield the showers from reaching the other passengers. For the rest of the journey, everyone looked at her differently.

Mirror, comb and hairbrush
There are moments when you leave home in a rush and forget to pay a little extra attention to your looks. A pocket mirror will help you make amends before being told by anyone else about the bread crumbs on your lips.

You cannot stop the wind, but you can quickly touch up your hairstyle if you have a comb or brush in your handbag.

Hand sanitiser
Ladies, this little item should be your best friend, especially for those who work in a busy environment where you interact with many people. Also, for those public restrooms that do not have soap in the dispensers. Wet wipes can act as a substitute for a sanitiser.

Pen, notepad/ diary
This is useful for a business idea, a short grocery list, or a to-do list. Or perhaps you may need to write down something you do not want to forget. Do not be like a lady I met who wanted my number, then asked her neighbour for a pen, and scribbled it on her palm.

Deodrant/perfume
You need to have a signature scent on you. A deodorant/perfume will keep you smelling fresh all day, and will save you the social trauma of bad odour if you find yourself having to use an unpleasantly smelling bathroom.

Hand lotion
After a hand wash, save yourself the ugly look of dry hands by applying a hand lotion. Be careful to avoid over-the-top scented lotions because the smell may irritate those around you.

Lip gloss/balm
Nothing falters the image of a woman more than cracked lips. A touch up of lip balm about twice or three times in the day keeps your lips moisturised, and portrays a woman who is in control of her looks.
