Judith Babirye, a renowned gospel artiste and pastor, shocked her fans when she announced she was leaving her husband. Maureen Nakatudde caught up with her on the matter

How has this affected you?
A lot of changes have taken place in my life. I feel more alive and more in touch with myself than before. More doors for my music career have opened up and also for pastoral ministries.

Doesn’t the past torment you?
No, just like Paul said, I am forgetting what is behind me and looking ahead to the prize ahead. By this I mean, I am focusing on the future.

Are you going to remarry or stay single?
I leave everything to God. He knows my future.

But you were accustomed to being someone’s wife, aren’t you lost?
I’m not. I recruited a professional manager, Gordon Sebbaale and together, we have built a team that helps me run my daily routine as desired.

How are the children coping?
I have one child, four-year-old Nana Mulungi. She is fine and doing well.

Has God revealed to you why the marriage failed?
I am grateful I went through it because it has sharpened me spiritually and taught me that things work well for those who love the Lord.

You mean the separation is working out well?
I’m now free and can minister without any fear. My relationship with God has also been strengthened.

Supposing he asked for forgiveness?
I already forgave him, but the future lies in the hands of God.

Single life comes with its challenges! Any so far?
No (laughing). Life is getting much better. More doors are opening and my self esteem has been restored.

Any advice to young women who are dating?
Image is not everything. You need to differentiate between your voice and that of God.
When your partner’s motives affect you, it is better to listen to God’s voice. If you are going through an abusive relationship, pray.
Silence is a killer that eats your inner being. It is best you talk to someone you trust before you ‘burst’ one day.
