LOCAL fashion designer, Stella Atal, recently did Uganda proud when she emerged third in the hotly contested awards for the best ethical fashion designer in Africa. She won prizes and additional benefits worth sh6.6m at the awards ceremony that was held in Douala, Cameroon last month.

Thirty three top ethical fashion designers from the continent had been shortlisted for the Afric Collection Fashion awards.

Malian Haby Diallo won the top prize, followed by Cameroonian Nakuin.
Other participants included Uganda’s Juliet Donkare, Nigeria’s Syl Anim, Tanzania’s Robi Robbi and Ivory Coast’s Pelebe Kone, among others.

The 2010 session of the awards, hosted by Eden Adyne, the presenter on Trace TV, were sponsored by MTN and BBC.
