Kampala mayor asked to explain sacking of town clerk

Publication date: Friday, 10th September, 2010

The local governments accounts committee of Parliament has summoned Kampala Mayor Nasser Ssebagala and the Permanent secretary in the ministry of local government to explain circumstances under which town clerk Ruth Kijjambu was sacked.

The town clerk on August 10 received a letter from the local government ministry directing her to leave office as a new town clerk had been appointed.

The committee says both the Permanent Secretary and the Mayor had no authority to sack Kijjambu since she was appointed by Public Service Commission.

Committee member Erias Lukwago is concerned that this has affected KCC work.
