Last night’s England versus Sweden bore the seeds of future disappointment for England fans. Forget all the talk about the best England chance to carry the world cup in 40 years.
On paper it was a draw that allowed England to top their group and dodge the German bullet, but in Sven Ericksson and his captain David Beckham’s mind they know that is was as good as loss.
Ericksson acknowledges they have problems defending against set pieces, add non-scoring strikers as well.
England’s problem is less technical and more mental — see the way they floundered about on Sweden’s second equaliser which was practically scored from a throw in!
Maybe they should consider hiring Sir Clive Woodward to oversee the soccer team.
Question is will he be around 40 years from now.
